In the past, I've taken any frayed lightning cable to the Apple Store and had it replaced for free because my iPhone was still covered under AppleCare. Well, I have another lightning cable that frayed recently so I thought I'd get it replaced through my iPhone's AppleCare again.
Anyway, the guy looks at the serial number, then inputs my iPhone 6 serial number in, and says that this lightning cable is from another model. I guess it's possible it was from my old iPhone 5 but I never had issues replacing a cable before. I asked if this was a new policy and he said yes. I don't even know how he knew the cable was from another model. Do the cable serial numbers have any indication what model it's tied to?
